Spring Into Something Beautiful

“Don’t you feel it? Don’t you know what’s happening?”

Let me just date myself for a moment and reference a quote from a classic, The Parent Trap (Hayley Mills edition, don’t get it twisted). You want to finish the line but can’t remember the rest, right? I know, it was killing me too! Nissa, if you are reading this, I know you know it!

When winter begins to say goodbye and spring is creeping in, you can just feel it. There’s something magical about the hope of spring. When there is beauty in something and it’s hard to describe (tapping my finger on the table, repeatedly)…it’s frustrating. Spring is one of those things.

What is it about the feeling of opening the windows for the first time after a long winter? God, it’s good! Feeling the sunshine beat down on your pale ass skin and the cool air blow through the house. In early spring, everything is still brown and grey. Filthy and dead. But the real beauty is in what’s coming. Waking up to hear the birds singing outside of your bedroom window. Putting away those tired boots and feeling the gritty earth between your toes again. The entire outlook of our day can change from this and it’s a beautiful thing!

The same thing can be said about the ever-so-luxurious Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. It’s hard to explain or put your finger on what makes them so beautiful. At the end of the day, they are just powders, right? Wrong. The real magic is in what happens when you put them on your face and realize how flawless they make you look.

Carisa Janes, the founder of Hourglass formulated and designed these powders in a way like no other cosmetic company has. With Photoluminescent Technology, the Ambient Lighting Powders are designed to perfect your skin by diffusing and softening the lighting in which you are under.

There are six in total, formulated without parabens, talc, gluten, fragrance or nano particles. The details below are taken directly from the product descriptions:

  • Ethereal Light: An opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow, even in broad daylight.
  • Diffused Light: A soft, warm, pale yellow powder that conceals redness and gives skin clarity like a soft ray of morning light.
  • Dim Light: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with the perfect balance of warm and cool tones.
  • Mood Light: A soft, sheer lavender pink powder that mimics the softest, most forgiving light and brightens the complexion.
  • Luminous Light: A champagne pearl powder that creates a soft, incandescent candlelit glow—day or night.
  • Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth, and also extends a summer glow.

Swatch - Ambient Lighting Palette.jpg

I purchased the trio palette a while ago after hearing such amazing reviews and used it until every last bit of it was gone. Knowing this was a product that I couldn’t live without, I put it on my list of items to repurchase and my Mom, being the wonderful person she always has been, bought it for me.

The trio contains from left to right, Dim Light, Incandescent Light (exclusive to the palette) and Radiant Light. I use Dim Light  with a flat top powder brush all over the face to set my foundation. Incandescent Light with a small tapered powder brush around and under my eyes and Radiant Light as a light bronze finish with a large fluffy brush to warm up the cheek bones and perimeter of my face.

I also own Mood Light in the single pan and use it as a soft pink tint to the tops of the cheeks or as a topper to another blush to create a highlight. Not to mention the bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light highlighted in my previous blog post, Put Your 9 to 5 Face On: It’s Game Time.

Though they may be light on the face, they are not light on the wallet. But let me tell you this, they are worth every last square inch of your plastic credit card shiny penny.

You can rest easy knowing that the next time you’re off to a party wearing the Ambient Lighting Powders, you’re not going to be reliving The Parent Trap saying:

The nerve of her! Coming here with your face!

What are you gonna do about it?

Do? What in heaven’s sake can I do, silly?

I’d bite off her nose. Then she wouldn’t look like you.

You’re going to be flawless.
