I am officially 6 months into the so-called life as a beauty blogger and thought I’d hit pause on the beauty related content for juuuust a minute (I see you @lustrelux).
Feel like you’ve got a pretty good idea of who I am so far? I’ve made a promise to myself and to all of you to be fully transparent about who I am. That doesn’t mean you’ll get to know every last deep dark secret of my
wild and crazy life, but I want you to get to know the real me. Just like The Weeknd wanted you to get to know him in “The Hills” , only less derogatory and not produced by a Grammy-Award winning producer named Illangelo.
I’ve always been true to myself. From being an obsessive organizer as a child to being sharp witted and opinionated at 31. Like you, I face my own challenges every day. From being judged for my height (4’11) to being a single female in a world of married couples. I wear 4″ heels well, because I can. And because there isn’t a damn thing I can do about these short legs but to try love them. I’ve got a broken heart that I am still working through. Defeat and rejection wave their hands in my face at the end of each day, just to remind me they’re still there. These are all things that keep me honest and continuously pushing myself. I will always want to be better, work harder and experience more. All just to prove that I can do anything I set my mind to. But seriously God? Throw me a bone once and awhile, would ya?
I felt inclined to come up with my own questions and not follow a tag. This way, you don’t miss out on the best, most random Ana-knowledge your heart so desires to know.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A grocery bagger at first, because I loved to organize things into bags. I later set my sights a bit higher and wanted to become an interior designer. Thanks to the U of M requiring a portfolio of work at the age of 18, shockingly, I didn’t make the cut.
Q: What nicknames did you have growing up?
A: Boo. Thanks to my Dad, I still love this one. Yano. You’re going to have to ask an old high school friend named Woody on how he came up with this one. By 12th grade, this was the name everyone knew me by, with 12 different variations. Muffin. Given by my first-ever boyfriend’s Mom because of a hat I wore to her son’s hockey games. Think: Jamiroquai circa 1996 mixed with something Cher Horowitz would have worn to school. Surprised Shorty isn’t on the list? I would have never let that one stick.
Q: Starbucks or Caribou?
A: The day I earned my gold card at Starbucks, I was as excited as the day I graduated high school. Ahh, the sweet smell of Pike Place roast.
Q: Early riser or all-nighter?
A: Early riser. I can barely keep my eyes open past 10:30 pm and find the most peaceful and invigorating part of my day is early each morning. Nothing better than the hope and dream of the unknown day ahead of you.
Q: You’re left stranded on an island with nothing but a backpack. What are you praying that you’ve packed?
A: Let’s get one thing straight, the backpack I would have is the one I’ve had my eyes on for sometime now by MZ Wallace. Because this is a hypothetical question and I like pretending. Starbucks coffee; it would have to be the Via, though not my first choice. Carmex, because I can’t stand chapped lips and it’s my fave. SunBum sunscreen, for obvious reasons and because it is free of every bad thing you can imagine. Hive five SunBum. My iPhone. Not like it would work but the thought of not having my phone? You might as well cut off my right arm for the level of insanity I’m going to feel if I must be without it. GoPicnic snack boxes. I’d need a hundred or more to last me until I was saved but my God, those things are handy, healthy and delish. A Lululemon hat and Vinyasa Scarf, because they’re my tried and true travel companions. A BOTA box, preferably Malbec. What, you need an explanation here? Colgate Wisps because even if I am all alone, I don’t want bad breath! And lastly, I suppose it would be good to have a lighter, an axe and a book about how to survive on an island, but that’s a bit boring, don’t you think?
Q: Favorite color:
A: An elementary question but this explains a lot about me. Black, white and nude. I’m choosing three. Because I like to live by my own rules and I mean really, are those even colors?
Q: Are you competitive?
A: Not in the least. Hence, being a figure skater for 10 years and only ever taking lessons.
Q: What makes you weak in the knees?
A: Justin Beiber, Channing Tatum and Ryan Gosling. MZ Wallace bags, Bite Beauty lipsticks and white Range Rovers. Oh yeah, and puppies.
Q: What do I want for myself in the next 10 years?
A: To be a successful blogger and/or YouTuber, Professional Organizer of my own company Empowered Spaces (it’s in the works!), take my bucket list trip to Europe, to be fit and healthy and hopefully meet the man of my dreams!
Q: If I could spend a day with any YouTuber, who would it be?
A: Desi Perkins and Katy aka Lusterlux – they come as a pair anyway. SQUAD goals honey, squad.
Q: If I could collaborate with one brand, which brand would I choose?
A: e.l.f. Seem like an odd answer? Sure, it would be a dream come true to pair up with any high end brand. How could you choose just one? I say e.l.f. because I would want everyone to be able to afford to buy something that has my name on it. I’m no millionaire and most of us may never be. I want to inspire the young and old to learn how to use and play with makeup and have it be available to the masses. Not to mention, e.l.f. is killing it on the packaging this year. NARS, they see you!
Q: I’ll always be in the pursuit of finding my favorite ______ of all time:
A: Foundation! Because having perfect skin makes everything else like the cherry on top.
Q: If you could move anywhere, where would you move to?
A: California, I don’t care where. Just put me near the vineyards and the ocean and I’ll never ask for another thing in my life. I swear.
Q: What can you not resist?
A: A Sephora sale, donuts, another nude lipstick, FRIENDS, sushi, a run around the lake and snuggling with my dogs. Oh yeah, and Starbucks, but you should know that by now.
Q: What is the last book you read?
A: The Girl on the Train. If you liked Gone Girl, this is a must read!
Q: Who makes you laugh?
A: Tyler Oakley. Where do you think Q & Slay came from? He is my hero.
Q: Who is your best friend?
A: My Mom. Because she is my everything.
Q: What’s one thing that makes you oh-so-special?
A: I am a killer organizer. I organize when I’m happy and I organize when I’m sad. This is a God given skill that not everyone is blessed to have so someday, I hope to be of service to all of you messy guys and girls out there; bring a sense of peace and simplicity in your world!
If you’ve made it all the way to the end, thank you so much for hanging in there and getting to know me! I hope you enjoyed this Q & Slay – Leave me a comment if you would like to see more posts like this on my blog or YouTube channel!
